Early parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of Moldova on July 11th. The PAS – pro-European party associated with President Maia Sandu – won a decisive victory – 52.60% of the electorate voted for her. The second place was taken by the Communist and Socialist Bloc – 27.32%. The result of the elections has a positive impact on the pro-Western direction of the Moldovan state’s development in the next few years. The fate of the Republic of Moldova, however, will depend on the international balance of power and negotiations between Russia and the West – write Yevhenii Portnyii and Bruno Surdel in the analysis “Republic of Moldova. Post-election scenarios”.
