THREE MACRO-TRENDS CONTEXTUALIZING THE FUTURES OF EUROPE – ANALIZA CSM 08.2017

Economic and demographic trends are already in motion that will determine the macro-level socio-economic and socio-political environment of mid-century Europe. Fashionable prognostications for the middle future focus on cataclysmic changes like the rise of robotics, the end of work, or the Islamization of Europe. These are possible, but perhaps a bit fantastical. Data-driven social science, however, can deliver much more certain predictions, especially concerning medium-term socio-economic and socio-political change. A realistic engagement with the trends that will shape Europe’s likely future environment can help inform discussions about future directions for the European Union.
