Russia tries to keep its influence in Central Asia, and Kazakhstan is the most important country in the region with many natural resources. So Russia cannot afford to lose control and it is acting now as a leading power in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation and provides help to the Kazakh government. But also China is very much involved in Kazakhstan and that intervention may bring Russia into trouble with Beijing while in the same time both countries cooperate. Their relations, however, is a marriage of convenience – said Dr Małgorzata Bonikowska in the World News (TVP World) analyzing the developments in Kazakhstan and Russia’s involvement there.
