As Poland takes on the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, one of the central themes of its agenda is strengthening democratic resilience in the face of growing information threats. Among the most critical of these is Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), which is playing an increasingly visible role in both international relations and domestic politics.

To explore this issue, the Centre for International Relations (CIR), Poland, together with the India News and Feature Alliance (INFA), New Delhi, organised a round table discussion with Indian journalists, media professionals, and policy experts.

The conversation drew on findings from the European External Action Service (EEAS), which highlight how FIMI operations are reaching beyond social media and starting to influence mainstream news coverage and public opinion more broadly.

Discussions focused on several key questions:

  • What tools exist to detect and counter FIMI?
  • What role should media outlets and journalists play in maintaining information integrity?
  • How can open societies better protect themselves against outside interference?

Poland, through its EU Presidency, aims to bring more attention to these challenges, pushing for closer international cooperation, updated regulations, and broader media literacy.

We extend our sincere thanks to our partners in India for their collaboration in making this dialogue possible, and to His Excellency Piotr Świtalski, Ambassador of Poland to India, for his valuable insights and support.
