Ewa Synowiec
Member in the European Observatory at the Centre for International Relations.
PhD in Economics (Warsaw School of Economics). Currently, following the conclusion of her formal professional career, she serves as an Adviser in the European Commission’s DG TRADE, supporting negotiations on a Deep and Comprehensive Trade Agreement with five countries of South-Eastern Africa (previously its lead negotiator). She also acts as Trade Ambassador in Poland (a DG TRADE and DG COMM initiative in EU Member States) and as a member of the Team Europe Direct experts’ network.
Between 2006 and 2025, she held senior management positions at DG TRADE of the European Commission, working on the EU’s common trade and investment policy towards the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, South-East Asia, the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia. Her portfolio also covered trade and sustainable development, trade aspects of public procurement and intellectual property.
From 2010 to 2015, she was Head of the European Commission Representation in Poland. Earlier, in the Polish administration, she served as Director of the Department of Integration Policy at the Office of the Committee for European Integration and became the first Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU.
Before joining public service, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the former Institute for Foreign Trade Conjunctures and Prices and authored numerous publications on Poland’s integration with the European Union.
