
The European Union must urgently redefine its role to safeguard its future – by strengthening security, boosting competitiveness, and enhancing citizen well-being. Persistent internal trade barriers must be dismantled through decisive reforms, while greater defense collaboration is essential as American focus shifts toward Asia.
During the policy roundtable “Europe at a Crossroads: Strategies for Renewal and Reform”, organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy, prominent experts and national representatives, including the ambassador of Poland to Bulgaria Maciej Szymanski, convened to discuss strategies for strengthening, securing, and democratizing the European project. Dr. Jarosław Pietras presented a report urging comprehensive, system-wide reforms to make the European Union more effective for its citizens, emphasizing that changes must be bold, coherent, and mutually reinforcing across all areas of EU policy.
