Russian invasion of Ukraine has shaken not just Europe but also has changed the global geopolitics and energy supply chains around the globe. Its impact has been clearly felt also in the Middle East as the European nations struggle to find new energy providers. Iran could benefit from that tectonic shift but harsh economic sanctions to which it has been subject as well as Tehran’s ideological constraints of its own making and regional strategic interests have created obstacles for a bigger Iran’s role in the  global energy market – writes Mahan Charmshir in analysis “Iran between East and West”.
