International fora have become arenas of systemic rivalry, with the erosion of their neutrality and effectiveness—from the UN Security Council to the WTO and WHO—weakening Western influence over the rules of the game. This environment favors actors able to act swiftly and cohesively and they are not necessarily the democratic powers; so unless the West, including the EU, aligns its positions within these institutions, standards will increasingly be defined beyond its reach.

On 30. September Centre for International Relations (Dr Bruno Surdel, senior fellow) took part at the Centre for Europe, University of Warsaw in a full-day seminar on “The Global Crisis of Multilateral Institutions in Times of Geopolitical Turbulence – Implications, Scenarios and Strategic Conclusions for the EU and Poland.”
The event brought together an inspiring mix of voices – academics, business leaders, diplomats, NGO representatives, and government officials, including from the Ministry of Health. We were also honored by the presence of Mr Cezary Tomczyk, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence.
