Dr Bruno Surdel on TVN24 BiS about Israel – Iran war

During a broadcast on TVN24 Biznes i Świat, Dr Bruno Surdel, senior analyst at the Centre for International Relations, warned that the escalating military conflict between Israel and Iran threatens (if USA intervenes) to spiral into a broader regional crisis—one that could unleash massive refugee flows, internal unrest, and even the collapse of the regime in Tehran.

“Millions of Iranians, especially the younger generation, are deeply disillusioned with the theocratic regime that has ruled with an iron fist for more than 40 years,” Dr Surdel stated. Many of them, he noted, hope for a new secular republic—or for the return of the exiled son of the last Shah, who now lives in the U.S. and is publicly calling on Iranians to rise up and overthrow the system.

However, the picture is far from simple. “Every new civilian casualty caused by Israeli strikes only deepens the anger toward Israel itself and polarises the region further,” he said.

Dr Surdel also pointed to the strategic posture of U.S. President Donald Trump, who is torn between his isolationist voter base (calling for an end to “never ending” Middle East wars under the ‘America First!’ banner) and hawkish political forces demanding immediate American intervention to topple Iran’s government. Netanyahu has become their hero.

“The whole situation is dangerously unpredictable. Just like President Trump himself—and like the long and tumultuous history of Iran,” the CSM analyst concluded.
