CIR analysis: “Conference on the Future of Europe”

The Conference on the Future of Europe was launched on 9 May on Europe Day. This is an initiative of the EU institutions which are willing to listen to the voice of the citizens. For 12 months, Europeans will discuss issues that bother them and describe their vision of the Old Continent. The conference is to be proof that there is no democratic deficit in the European Union and to provide a basis for a possible modification of the Treaties. The problem is that the adopted formula is quite rigid, and the goals are ambiguous – writes Maciej Zakrocki in the analysis Conference on the Future of Europe.
